Dear David Lammy, it is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I resign my membership of the Labour Party, effective immediately. For many years, I have held you in high regard and proudly cast my vote for you, believing in your commitment to equality and justice. However, the party's continued and deeply troubling stance on LGBTQ+ rights has become untenable. The erosion of these fundamental rights, compounded by Sir Keir Starmer's recent pronouncements regarding the Supreme Court ruling and the party's new 'understanding of what is a woman,' which only serves to create more confusion than clarity, as well as the Labour leadership’s abandonment of young trans people and the regressive decision to ban puberty blockers, has left me utterly disillusioned. As a member of the LGBTQ+ family, I cannot in good conscience continue to support a party that no longer supports my wider family in society. This is not the Labour Party I believed in, nor the party you, David, initially represented to me. I can no longer reconcile my values with the party's direction.
