Alleged expert on American television. I probably write way too many words that nobody is ever gonna read. Full-time depression and social anxiety. Terminally awkward. I need therapy.

The former staffer, who was not present for Disney’s feedback but has heard from others who were, remembers being amazed by the final footage that the Be Fri team created: “It was on Hoppers’ level. It befuddles me why they passed on it, but with each round of notes, Disney just didn’t feel like little boys could see themselves in the film enough. Basically, Disney reps were like, ‘We can’t have a girl power movie.'” (Pixar’s recent titles centering on female leads include the 2024 blockbuster Inside Out 2, which became the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, and the Disney+ offering Turning Red.)

Newspaper article. "Stacy Keach can't wipe the grin off his face, not since he landed the role of a dashing Union Army officer in the 8-hour TV miniseries The Blue and The Gray. Keach, doomed to playing villains, off-beat characters and not a few wackos during most of his career, feels like the toad transformed to prince after a kiss by a princess. The kiss, however, was not delivered by a princess. The trick was turned by director Andrew McLaglen who cast him in a role reminiscent of Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind. The Blue and the Gray is a Civil War cavalcade co-starring John Hammond. Gregory Pec plays Lincoln in a cast of 175 speaking roles, including Sterlig Hayden, Paul Winfield, Lloyd Bridges, Rory Calhoun and Colleen Dewhurst. CBS hopes the series, tu run November 14, 16, and 17 will be 1982's answer to Shogun, Roots, and Rich Man Poor Man. If The Blue and The Gray lives up to advance billing, Keach, as its central figure, stands to become a major star. Long a respected dramatic actor with an impressive background in theater, the powerfully-built, granite-faced Keach has never attained superstar status. Like most actors, Keach seeks that goal for artistic and financial reason. 'It's a dream come true for an actor with my background', he said, stowing away lunch at the Polo Lounge, a restaurant he rarely frequents. (He continues saying,) Captain Jonas Steele is Gable-esque or Flynn-esque. He's a character we don't see in contemporary terms. Steele is enormously colorful, larger than life. I've played a lot of losers in my time. The role of Steele is manna from heaven. Keach said there are, inescapably, elements of Gone with the Wind and The Red Badge of Courage in the Civil War story, the old South crumbling before the dreaded Yankee war machine. The 15 million dollar epic covers the years 1859 to 1865 from John Brown's trial to Lincoln's death, including the battles of Bull Run, Vicksburg, Appomattox, Gettysburg and the Virginia wilderness campaign.
