Stop new rideshare taxes lyn Hi Chris, Mayor Brandon Johnson is considering an increase to rideshare taxes and fees at a time when working families are already struggling with rising costs, despite Chicagoans already facing some of the highest rideshare taxes in the country. Chicago riders already pay as much as $7.73 in fees before even getting into the car. New taxes would increase the cost of every trip-whether you're going to work, a medical appointment, or the grocery store.
The gist is this: when people perceive threat-whether real or imagined, they want strong rules and autocratic leaders to help them survive. My research has found that within minutes of exposing study participants to false information about terrorist incidents, overpopulation, pathogen outbreaks, and natural disasters, their minds tightened. They wanted stronger rules and punishments.
