Hello, my fellow Irish citizens. bBeating up Irish People of Colour and immigrants won't get you a house. Terrorising our kids won't shorten your hospital waiting list. Screaming "Go back!" won't make one bus run on time. We are not your enemy. You do have a constitutional right - and a duty - to question your government. Ask why you can't afford a home when Ireland has one of the lowest social housing rates in Europe (jsut 9% compared to the EU average of 30%). Ask why over 900,000 are on hospital waiting lists and why emergency departments are consistently overcrowded. Ask why public transport is underfunded despite record tax revenue, why nightlife is dying due to restrictive licensing, why schools are under-resourced and why your friends and family are leaving. Ask why the same politicians have been failing for 25 years straight and why you've let it happen. Spoiler alert: It's not because of immigrants. Here's a fact. Ireland doesn't even have enough builders, nurses, doctors, or carers to meet its own needs. According to government data, we need 50,000 extra construction workers by 2030 just to keep up with housing demand. Our health service depends heavily on international staff - nearly 1 in 3 nurses and 1 in 5 doctors are from abroad. Even Irish construction workers are leaving because living here has become to expensive. That's not on us - that's on government failure. And here's the kicker: even if every immigrant "went back" tomorrow, nothing would improve. You'd still be stuck with broken systems and leaders who don't care. So maybe - just maybe - direct your anger where it belongs: hold power accountable, not your neighbours or their children.
