Hank Green Post on YouTube: One thing I hate is the way everyone is fighting over whether the government shutdown is something the "Democrats" are doing or the "Republicans" are doing. No. Giving the deeper context is not complicated. Republicans want to defund Obamacare, which would double insurance premiums for low-income Americans. Democrats want them to not do that. They could not come to a compromise. The government shut down. If you'd like a deeper root cause, have this one: The government shutdown because of the hyper-partisanship created by gerrymandering, social media algorithms, and the electoral college.
