The girl seemed to brush it aside as if it weren't urgent, but instead she forced a smile that was far too broad, clapping her hands. "Let me see it again." "What?" "The trick, the thing with the T-shirt!" "It's not a trick, it's a..." Another clap. "I understand, but let me see it again." This time Argenta raised a finger to the ceiling. She had no idea where her hair clip had gone, but she was starting to need it. As she drew little circles in the air, the little plastic heart crawled out from between the sheets, reached the pillow, and then leaped, landing in her hand. She immediately started to put her hair in a ponytail, while Carolina burst out laughing.
Ilaria tried to answer, but a sharp pain gripped her chest, and she pulled her arms back to hold it. "Come here, both of you!" Argenta ordered. Glorja and Miran were still near the green candles staring into the darkness. They came to the bed, drawn in by the other girl's screams. "Glorja, hold her arms, Miran, her legs." Argenta continued to give directions as she took off her backpack, grabbed her makeup bag, and rummaged through it. Luckily, she didn't need to see to find the right bottle. Ilaria tried to resist when the two boys grabbed her, but even in her delirium, she didn't have the strength. "Arms up, away from your body!" Argenta demanded as she freed her from the sheets and lifted the sweat-soaked T-shirt the girl was wearing. On her thin belly were large, red, bleeding wounds, like claws, that were dripping blood with every breath she took. "What... what did they do to her?" Glorja asked, distressed. "The magic," Argenta replied, holding a small bottle filled with black powder over Ilaria's belly, "is trying to get in."
