it does seem like early Christian ideas were v much in flux and diverse, which makes sense esp given that in the 1st century there wasn’t canon literature (or any(?) literature) as it spread. I like what Rev. Butcher says in his discussion on the identity of the Beloved Disciple:

Yep, I understand that it was quite fluid for a long period of time - lots of different Gospels, numerous branches and so on - really quite interesting. What period, I guess, are you interested in?
