Last week we heard the terrible news about our brother and coworker Khalid Abdi was shot and killed while he was celebrating Eide al-Ahda on Thursday. This news is shocking for our MACE siblings. MACE, the staff union of AFSCME Council 5 employees is fundraising for Khalid’s family. He leaves behind a young wife that is expecting a child. We will continue to collect donations both internally and from our labor community. If you want to continue to support, we prefer that you write us a check or cash to avoid fees. MACE, the staff union at AFSCME Council 5 has set up a Go Fund Me page for Khalid Abdi, that we want to push out to our wider networks. The reason we decided to create our own fund was that we knew we could track where those donations would end up and make sure it has the biggest impact for his young family.
