That book is pretty much all you need to play 3rd edition.
My teenager and his friends prefer that edition. I play it with them from time to time. You cab pick up the compatible codices on Ebay or find pdfs on the web if you want more than is in the book itself. Most of the models you'd want to play are still on sale. I'd say it was still perfectly viable.
That's 4th edition right? I can't remember. I have that somewhere as well!
Best flavor text and exposition. But it’s an ancient relic in its own right.
More than ever now! "Oldhammer" groups really growing now, loads of people still playing that game 🙂

Heh, to be fair my mind still goes "oh look, the new 40k rulebook".
