what's the base geometry? i always wanted to hand draw isometric images and then project them knto a cube and blend between them based on camera relative angle. i would love to know if this is that or something more layered.

So good!! I think as long as you constrain yourself to a small set of known angles basically anything you draw in this style will look amazing on rounded cube geo like this for free

Wait, hold on, these were 3D the whole time? But you're also swapping textures with the angle changes, so maybe it's just clever layering instead? Cool aesthetic either way.
