“Vote parking” refers to a practice where a voter temporarily supports a candidate, party, or policy without strong long-term commitment. This is not normal. This is not OK. I am disappointed that CBC would entertain this rhetoric on its airwaves. Imagine the Ukrainian government holding a call-in show with Russia allowing folks to talk about “both sides” of whether Russia should annex Ukraine. I’m writing as a resident of Grand Bay-Westfield to encourage the town to explore a new channel for communication with residents. I am so proud to live in a town that embraces diversity and aims to ensure all people feel welcome. It’s part of why I decided to move here a couple of years ago. Given recent events in the United States, and the removal of certain protections against hatred on the major social media platforms, I no longer wish to engage as frequently on Facebook, Instagram and X. The Bluesky social media network offers a space where protections still exist, where people can easily turn off the hatred faucet, and where a large community of people are trying to make the internet a safer place, and more inviting for people of all gender identities, races, ethnicities, countries of origin, etc. About 30 million people have joined Bluesky, and there’s a vibrant New Brunswick contingent, which includes New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt. Will Grand Bay-Westfield consider establishing a presence on the growing Bluesky platform, and sharing information there?
