An email that reads: As we prepare for a successful 2025-2026 school year, it is important to inform you of a new state law, House Bill 1481, passed by the Texas Legislature that requires school boards to adopt a policy restricting student use of personal communication devices, including cell phones and smartwatches, on school property during the school day. The new law is intended to support student learning and reduce distractions, while requiring school districts to establish disciplinary measures for violation of the policy. As a district, we are currently in the process of developing a plan for Board approval of a policy that aligns with the requirements of the new law. Details about how this law will be applied in our schools will be shared with you prior to the start of the new school year.
