Dan Kennedy @dankennedy.net · Jun 14 I encountered this turtle chilling by the side of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail in West Concord, Mass., earlier today. I believe it’s an eastern painted turtle, but if you have other ideas, let me know.

That’s a slider - red ear, I assume. www.mass.gov/info-details...
Given the location and time of year almost certainly that's a female going to, or coming from, her nest site.
That's a common snapping turtle.
I say painted turtle. Possibly a red-bellied cooter.
