The CJP created a mock political platform that rapidly gained traction across social media.[16] Dipke stated in an interview with India Today that the Chief Justice's comments were particularly hurtful because they came from the custodian of the Constitution, who is tasked with protecting freedom of expression.[17]

Power worship blurs political judgement because it leads, almost unavoidably, to the belief that present trends will continue. Whoever is winning at the moment will always seem to be invincible. If the Japanese have conquered south Asia, then they will keep south Asia for ever, if the Germans have captured Tobruk, they will infallibly capture Cairo; if the Russians are in Berlin, it will not be long before they are in London: and so on. This habit of mind leads also to the belief that things will happen more quickly, completely, and catastrophically than they ever do in practice. The rise and fall of empires, the disappearance of cultures and religions, are expected to happen with earthquake suddenness, and processes which have barely started are talked about as though they were already at an end. Burnham’s writings are full of apocalyptic visions.
It will be seen that at each point Burnham is predicting a continuation of the thing that is happening. Now the tendency to do this is not simply a bad habit, like inaccuracy or exaggeration, which one can correct by taking thought. But much of the response from the broader left has been basically that anyone who questions immigration is a racist and should be cancelled. But that just leaves us preaching to the converted. And honestly, it's just lazy - it's so much easier to have agreement-filled virtue-affirming conversations with our lefty mates than to actually tackle these issues with our friends, whanau and workmates who think differently. It's time we had the courage of our convictions to have the harder conversations.
The left has a duty to make good arguments for solidarity with migrants as opposed to the right's approach which is to scapegoat them. We need to explain not only that immigrants deserve our solidarity, but why this is also actually in the interestd of local workers, Māori, our environment and infrastructure and economy.
