In 1977, musician DAN WHITLEY was approached by an aerospace executive who needed a tax shelter. Inspired by their children's shared love of STAR WARS, the scheme would take the form of an album of original music inspired by the hit film. THE REBEL FORCE BAND Was formed, and their only album, LIVING IN THESE STAR WARS, offered an array of character-focused songs such as the single that caught Dr. Demento's ear, "Chewie The Rookie Wookie", alongside surprisingly sincere tracks like "The Ballad of Obi Wan" and "Don't Fall In Love With An Android". On the album's cover, painted by artist DILLEEN MARSH, a unique version of the REBEL ALLIANCE STARBIRD appears courtesy of graphic designer N.K. STEVENSON. This patch is a tribute to that early fandom variant of the Iconic symbol, celebrating its 50th anniversary alongside the movie that Inspired it....

One of the initial ideas was to alter the existing buildings of Tomorrowland in Disneyland and transform them without changing the structure of the buildings. "I started by designing classic Star Wars shapes and integrated them into the existing buildings of Tomorrowland. Since we could not change the footprint or alter the structural components of the buildings, I focused on resurfacing the buildings by placing iconic spaceships on rooftops and redesigning the facades. The aim was primarily on reworking the surfaces to evoke the visual design of Star Wars as much as possible." Working within an existing structure imposed numerous limitations. To assist Chiang with his designs, blueprints, and site plans, along with preexisting digital models, were provided. With all this data at his disposal, Chiang gained a clearer vision of the spaces, their dimensions, as well as the location's topography. "Most of my initial sketches were primarily about finding inspiration, trying to see if it could work. It was very challenging, because the buildings and restaurants were very specific, and it was tough to reconfigure them into Star Wars." Partly due to the success of The Force Awakens, Disney eventually changed course and decided to create two entirely new lands for the Star Wars theme parks, allowing the team to start from scratch and build everything from the ground up. On August 15, 2015, Disney Parks officially announced that two 14-acre (1.6 hectares) lands would be dedicated to the Star Wars universe. These sites finally opened their doors four years later.
