Daryl Sng @darylsng.com · May 30 Finished Pynchon’s Shadow Ticket yesterday. Haven’t read a new Pynchon in so long (not since Mason & Dixon) but this was so much fun. Pynchon writing a noir detective story set in the 1930s means kooky names and a sendup of Runyonesque dialogue, but also gives an undercurrent of menace.

As with much of Pynchon’s 20th century work, there’s a sense of a global conspiracy, but here we know (and the characters don’t fully grasp) that there is a true global conspiracy in the rise of fascism and the impending Holocaust. Impossible to read this picaresque without Pynchonian paranoia
