This is similar to a pattern I tried to get GPT-4 to follow. I remember struggling to get it to do even basic things. LLMs have come a long way in 2 years! The general idea was that you give it a generic system prompt and a list of guides, and the tools to read them.

Yeah, stuff like skills (and MCP before it) were unlocked by the models finally getting good enough to usefully act on this kind of information - I think it was likely Claude 3.5 and o3 when they tipped over to being competent enough for this
