A bird that is brown on its back and top of the wings, flies above the water in a wetland. The background is green reeds out of focus. It has a thin black collar that runs from eye to eye, below the chin, thus the name. The base of its short bill is red and its belly is white (unseen). We are looking at the bird from the side and above it.

A white bodied bird is flying towards the viewer in the blue sky. Its wings are almost straight up and down as it turns and the red bill is wide open as it screams. The top of its head is black and this covers the black eyes as well.

Three birds are in silhouette. At the top looking right is a Glossy Ibis, in the middle looking left is a Black-winged Stilt walking and in the lower third is a Plover, standing in the shallow water doing nothing, as Plovers do. The water has a light blue early morning colour, showing faint white clouds in reflection.

A large brown bodied bird, wings up, as it flies to work on a Monday. Its neck and head have white speckles among the brown and its long curved bill shows it to be a Glossy Ibis or Gonzo. Under the open facing wing, shimmers of green iridescence show. The dark legs trail behind with the long toes folded up.

An all white sea bird, wings wide open, flies in the blue Spanish sky. The narrow longish bill is starting to turn red as it matures. The chest feathers are wet, showing it has been feeding in the sea water.

Looking at it from below, the V shaped tail is half open as its red bill, which is black tipped. The head has a black cap and the ends of the primaries are also black. Two gulls perched on an aluminium platform. One is leaving and has leapt off the platform with a wicked look in on eye, narrowed as if focussed on something. A large white bird with long pink legs and an odd pink bill, stands in a lake. It is carefully watching a brown duck, with a blue bill swim past. No, it is not a ruddy duck but almost the same! The green water is the background, made that colour from the reflection of the reeds.

A bird, wings folded, flies past carrying a bee in its curved beak. It has not yet developed the full adult colours. All the same, the chest can be seen to becoming a light blue, its chin yellow, the top of the head that rich rusty brown and the wings going from green to brown. Its eye is still brown and will become red later. It half hangs its feet down as it probably needs more landing practice! Joke. The background is the blue Spanish sky.

A small wader, is up on its feet on the water & shaking the water out of its feathers. It has a reddy/brown face and black body. The floofing shows white underneath at its lower body. The short black bill has a almost florescent light green colour at the lower base of the bill. Water droplets are flying all over from the shake out. The background is water & is greenish, with rings of ripples emanating from the bird.

A wetland bird is flying to the left, wings up & side on. It had turned its head to look at the viewer, sowing its white head with black cap and red bill. The body is a smoky grey colour & under the wings it is white. The background is green and brown reed out of focus.

These ones are flying towards the viewer at a 45 degree angle to the right. Both have a half black collar around the back of their necks & white feathers under their tails.

A long, pink legged Greater Flamingo has its back to the viewer, with the long neck and head turned round side on, as it preens its fluffed up feathers. Mostly white, some orange feathers are showing on the folded wing and the pink specialised beak is getting into feathers at the top of the wing. The background is dark water.

A small agile light brown, high speed bird, flying wings wide open. It has distinctive scale like feather pattern on its belly and is white under the chin. The tail is closed and results in a narrow V shape. The background is the blue Spanish sky.

A small plover, standing on the muddy lake shoreline, the perfect place for their grubs they ferret out of the mud. It is all white below and all brown above, including a cap on its head. There are two narrow brown stripes from the beak up past its black eyes. A brown half collar is also distinctive. The background is the water up to the edge of a soggy mud surface.

A white hibiscus with a fiery dark pink centre

A light brown bird, floating in the water, side on. It has a long white neck (black on the back) with its head turned directly toward the viewer. The black feathers on top of its head stand up and are parted in the middle, making a V shape. Its jowls are brown and fluffy while black markings streak down from both eyes against the white face. The bird is reflected in the wavy water. On the left and lower part of the image, are out of focus green reeds.

The closer bird is still sleeping with the head turned round and tucked on its back, while standing on one long pink leg. The bird behind is awake and has its head turned away as it preens. Both birds are in side view and face in opposite directions.

A medium sized bird, loafing on a tree branch. We are looking at it side on. Its belly is pure white, while the wings and back are a mottled grey and brown. On the wings, the feathers are white tipped, giving the spotted name and showing white bits all over the wings. Long tail feathers are white underneath. There is a crest raised on top of the head also in grey. All around are green leaves and old gnarly tree branches.

A white bodied gull, diving in the sky, sideways on and showing the underside of both wings as it starts to turn away from the viewer. Clear to see the yellow legs and bill, which has that common red patch on the lower part. Again it has a red eye ring and black primaries. Only second in size locally, to the rare-to-see Black-backed Gull. The lower background is mountains in the distance, out of focus.
