Florida alligator, around ten feet in length from nose tip to tail tip, around three feet in width at widest girth, estimate 35-50 years in age. They are cold blooded and will lay on the shore in the morning sunning themselves until their metabolism is ready for action. In the area this one was photographed, they are also vulnerable to the indigenous Florida ponies that also roam the area in small herds and that will stomp the alligators they may encounter. The alligators will eat their foals (small babies) if they have the opportunity so the horses naturally attack the alligators to drive them away.
