The EU is moving towards setting up return hubs in 3rd countries for rejected asylum seekers, following an agreement reached between the 🇪🇺Parliament and national governments. It's meant to bypass the problem of peoples' home countries refusing to take them back.

This is disgusting disregard for humanity and human rights. It is the racism/xenophobia of the 'former' colonisers, afraid of their ex-slaves.

It's hard to imagine this hardline migration law passing during the previous 🇪🇺Parliament term. But the new right-wing majority delivered by voters in the 2024 EU election means von der Leyen's centre-right EPP can team up with the far right (Le Pen's PfE, Weidel's ESN, Meloni's ECR) to pass this.
