I was shocked when I moved to London in 2007 and found that even the best-educated people in Britain knew absolutely nothing about how their confederal level of governance worked. Some didn’t even know they had elected MEPs.

This is also why the US is in the tank, indifference.
To be honest, I live in the European quarter, I work in the bubble, and yet I always discover EUCOs 3 days before they take place (and then rush to my police station to get my residential laissez passer) How can I decently expect British MPs to be better ?

Most people-both Leavers & Remainers-see the EU in terms of "vibes" about European in general rather than actually understanding it. They might tell you they are motivated by principals about peace or sovereignty, but it is usually based on whether they feel at home on the other side of the channel.
It was like the British mind was allergic to information about Europe (but obsessed with information about America, as they seemed to think they were an island just off the coast of Maine).
