What I find particularly admirable is your confidence in the idea that the general public, armed with nothing more than headphones and a high tolerance for chaos, will leap into action when they hear your alarm go off. It’s heartwarming, really, to know you believe so deeply in the vigilance of bystanders. Unfortunately, this belief is adorably misplaced. As it turns out, no one – and I do mean no one – cares. Not the pedestrians. Not the other cyclists. Not even the police, who presumably have bigger fish to fry. The only result of the chirping is that it adds to the noise pollution and lets us all know someone’s managed to get a free ride. Again. This isn’t a community watch group; it's London. If someone is audibly illegally riding a Lime bike, you'll most likely get a side-eye and a mental note to avoid that street next time. So, if I may humbly suggest, instead of attempting to crowdsource your loss prevention through noise-based peer pressure, you might want to consider, oh, I don’t know, actually immobilising the bikes when they’re not paid for. You are, after all, a tech company. Maybe take a little field trip – live in London for a week. Hear the chirps. Watch everyone ignore them. Then let me know if you still think your current system is doing anything other than serenading the city into madness. Warmest regards and continued indifference, DN
