Regenfeld | Great Sand Sea, Egypt, 2010 Since my friend @karims_arabesken has been posting so many wonderful pics of the desert I felt like posting a couple as well. These are a throwback to a wonderful 16 day trip through the Western Desert in Egypt I did in late 2010. I miss the desert. This is a cairn in an area called Regenfeld. When Friedrich Gerhard Rohlfs reached this area in 1874 is supposedly rained in the desert. They watered their camels and built cairn and left a message in a bottle. When László Almásy came some decades alter he took the original out, copied it and sent it to Rohlfs' wife. The copy is still there. 135/2, the Martini. Also the most tedious. Someone must have used PH instead of JIS drivers and damaged two of the screws. Had to drill them out because the extractor didn't have enough to hold onto. Need some M2 tap to clean out the thread for the new screws later.
