Genuinely astonished to see a Democratic elected official still saying this. NJ state Sen. Vin Gopal made these comments in a piece published *today* by @politico.com. www.politico.com/newsletters/...

“It’s hard for me to stomach” …then RESIGN. We can’t afford this kind of dead weight.

Rep. Geoff Smith · May 14

Oh I heard a couple of colleagues say similar things. And was also befuddled as to why.

Shepard Kollock · May 15

Any doubts that NJ Democrats don't give a flying fig about anything but their own local power?

@bas2108.bsky.social · May 14

Bye, Vin.

It's almost as if it's alarming to observe a politician that has core beliefs anymore vs those that simply ride the waves of public sentiment. Obviously the country's voters have a very strong preference for the latter, it's borne out in our choices for president & congress.

He doesn't care because he's a white guy he'll be fine.

@bokehrama.bsky.social · May 14

JFC! starting with comey these good doers are going to facilitate the end of our democracy!

michael spins · May 14

I'm so fucking sick of these jagoffs, they don't really want to govern, they want to clutch their pearls about "fairness" while the GOP is gerrymandering half the country out of representation and existence. Forget about debating them or changing their minds, primary their worthless asses out.

Chris Lee · May 14

I am tired of old men who are either complicit shits, or too fucking stupid to understand that the game has changed totally.

@cassius59.bsky.social · May 14

People who are still saying this kind of thing in the face of an all out assault by the Republican Party on democracy and elections belong nowhere near political office.

@demosthenes1959.bsky.social · May 14

Von Gopal should quit politics.

Louise · May 14

He's one of those Democrats I guess that hasn't learned you can't take a knife to a gunfight.

@kevinmcnamee.bsky.social · May 14

Was the headline “Dems Fret Redistricting Sends Wrong Message to Voters”? Because I can totally see Politico spinning one Dem state legislator into a Dems fret or Dems in disarray story.

install.exe · May 14

Ensuring a "system of fairness" is possible first requires stopping an authoritarian takeover. Like it or not your duties extend beyond your own personal hesitations. We're not going to let you purity test us into fascism anymore.

Rae Loren · May 14

Democrats in congress are still crossing aisle to approve judges and nominations. This is in that same vein. They aren't prepared for this moment.

Bubba Okie · May 14

NJ Dems are a feckless bunch. Like the NY democratic legislature, hold a trifecta of power but are afraid to use it.

Spaaaace Ghoooost · May 14

"Let's take the high road while down on the low road they're raping and pillaging America. What could go wrong?"

@thirddudeontheleft.bsky.social · May 14

It doesn't make a right. I don't support it because I think it's a good thing, I support it because it's a necessary thing.

Blue Gumby · May 14

What a fool Two wrongs make a CHANCE of escaping fascism I hate democrats who don’t even want our republic or democracy to even have a CHANCE

Mike Friedman · May 14

People really need to tell him to shut his pie hole. The time for that is long past. As in 10 years long past.

Steve Cobb a.k.a. Kunga Tsöndru · May 14

Surrender Dems forever & anon, Amen.

Steve in Chicago · May 14

I also realize they can probably lock in more seats with a safe blue majority by looking elsewhere, but it would be a great opportunity to punish Jeff Van Drew for leaving the party.

Proof positive of Robert Frost's observation that a liberal is someone who can't take their own side in an argument.

Edith Horwitz · May 14

Hey @vingopal.bsky.social , Republicans are the ones who changed the rules of the game. At least credit Dems with playing fairly; they listened to their constituents, there was a vote and the result was redraw maps to combat manipulation, election rigging and taking away voters’ rights. #NewJersey

Needs to be primaried by someone with a spine and a brain

Eighth Day Arts · May 14

The Codependent Party. I remain a liberal independent bc I can’t stomach this 💩

Frederick Winslow Homer · May 14

Tell me you need to get primaried without telling me you need to get primaried

@davidfriendpiano.bsky.social · May 14

@andrewzwicker.bsky.social should be primaried — clearly incapable of meeting the moment when our democracy is very literally at risk

@davidfriendpiano.bsky.social · May 14

@vingopal.bsky.social should be primaried — he clearly is incapable of understanding the stakes of serving in public office in these times.

Completely disqualifying
