I find this sort of take so baffling. Would a Democratic nominee in a safely blue seat rather face three different Dems running as independents who might all split voters unhappy with how she got the nomination, or would they prefer a one-on-one race with a single independent Dem? Surely the former.

If it is a 60/40 district, the concern might just be losing to the Rep nominee because the D vote was split. If it’s a 80/20 district, then I agree with your assessment.

Chicago machine politics can be inscrutable, my guess is she doesn’t want to split the vote with other Latino candidates in a majority Latino district
