Artwork by Norwegian artist David sandum. He explains this piece by these words: One of my works from late 2025, ”Together.” I started the Together series in 2012. At the time, I felt there was so much focus on the sexual aspect of relationships in art. I wanted to address the softer side. The supportive and steady part—the partnership that may endure over time. The sensual is often present in my work, but usually as an undertone. I have done more sexually explicit work, but I mostly keep them to myself. Having said that, in art there are no rules. No right or wrong. The Together series is one of my main themes that I return to. I have several: ’Alone By the Sea’, ’Together’, ’Abandoned Houses’, ’Roots and Branches’ etc. I love to develop them and think I will explore them for the rest of my life. They sum up what I experience, long for, dream of, and feel—where nature and love is a healing force, and suffering and endurance are equally present. I was once asked if I was an expressionist? I answered that expressing emotions through color and human emotions makes me such. But I am a romantic expressionist.” This is felt here. A work that took five years to complete in various stages. I feel it is one of the most romantic pieces I have done. The branches were inspired by Celtic patterns, and the figures in the trees from the silhouettes I see during my evening walks. The exhibit will take place at See Lab in The Hague, opening June 6th. Curator @tessawm-artist.bsky.social Nearly 1000 artists from 42 countries are now registered and we are a force for good! David’s words: This will be the 15th exhibit. I started the project in my hometown of Moss Norway in 2010, to raise funds for children’s books for my public library. Since then we have been in Los Angeles, Canberra (Australia), New York City, Stratford Upon Avon, Edinburgh, Cheltenham, Myrtle Beach (South Carolina), York, Vancouver, and last year, McKinney, Texas! All helping worthy causes through our love of art. It has not always been an easy ride. We have survived through a pandemic, and later a changing social media landscape. For this reason, we changed the name in 2023 from TAE (Twitter Art Exhibit) to PAE (Postcard Art Exhibit). I carry the love for all of our previous board members, curators, our participating artists, our causes and charities deep in my heart. Reflecting on this, I have concluded that there is nothing more creative than to watch something grow, and nothing more special when it is done with love. Artwork by Norwegian artist David Sandum. New work signed tonight at my studio. Title: ’By the Ocean Front’ Medium: Pastel/watercolor pencils/oil pastel sticks, on 350 mg black watercolor paper. Size: 70x50 cm (27.5 x 19.6 inch) Year: 2025 Artist explanation: This piece took me months to complete in various stages. Very large for its kind, I constantly needed to remain focused and contemplate the big picture. Mostly drawing with pastel pencils etc., it is easy to get blinded by small details that you cannot see from a distance, or add colors that stand out too much from afar. Much time was spent observing it on my easel from my chair. The motif surprised me. Always starting with a blank space without sketch, I soon realized that the mid-section brought out scenery from my many trips to Northern California. Yet the sky felt very much like Scandinavia where I live. My work always becomes a blend of my experiences and feelings. What comes out, comes out. I have made paintings where the buildings look like New York City, a bridge taken from Prague, the sky is Norwegian, and the trees resemble the ones I’ve seen in Barcelona! This piece has a strong blend of Northern California and Norway to me. The thematics of the piece with the man and woman on each side, is very «Munch-esk.» The beauty and drama of nature. The distance and silence between the man and woman—the longing, yet the complexity.
