there's a monster in the room with me and I think it wants to eat the world I didn't realise it was a monster at first because it was small, and I liked it and it made me feel less alone in the world now sometimes when it eats, I can see its teeth they're covered with blood, but still I've spent years thinking it wouldn't eat me I still tend to the monster and it's warm, and comforting, familial but I can see it more clearly it's big now and its eyes have darkened and it's hungry
Code As Art Code can be beautiful, elegant and performant, but can it deliberately be artistic? Despite how important and prolific software and programming have become over the last 50 years the general public still have a very loose understanding of what software actually is. This hasn't been lost of the people that build the software, who often slowly try and capture themselves in the work that they do. In this talk we'll take a look at some examples through history of seeing the humans behind the code they write as they imprint themselves on their work and we'll consider if it's possible to deliberately make art by manipulating the form and design of software itself.
Incredibly emotionally intense final Black Sabbath show - which was more of a celebration of the culture of heavy metal that provided a place to go for so many people, including myself, my entire life. Complex, celebratory, harrowing, sad, beautiful, intimate all at once. I doubt I'll ever see anything like this again in my life. Layered - the show and bands were incredible, the sets breezy, and the two headline stints a swansong. Not really about "seeing Black Sabbath", but the works and legacy of a band and set of humans that were being celebrated. Everyone showed up, and I'm so, so, so glad I got to see this thing
The Gestapo committed widespread atrocities during its existence. The power of the Gestapo was used to focus upon political opponents, ideological dissenters (clergy and religious organisations), career criminals, the Sinti and Roma population, handicapped persons, homosexuals, and, above all, the Jews.[4] Those arrested by the Gestapo were often held without judicial process, and political prisoners throughout Germany—and from 1941, throughout the occupied territories under the Night and Fog Decree (German: Nacht und Nebel)—simply disappeared while in Gestapo custody.
