To sum up: President Donald Trump and the Justice Department argued that children of undocumented immigrants are categorically excluded from U.S. citizenship at birth. On that proposition, it lost 8–1. Roberts and the other four justices in the majority say those children are always covered by the citizenship clause. Thomas and Gorsuch say they might be covered by the citizenship clause if their parents are domiciled. And Kavanaugh says they’re covered by statute, at least for now. On whether the children of temporary visa holders and birth tourists are categorically excluded from U.S. citizenship at birth, it’s a 6–3 result. Again, Roberts and the majority say they’re covered by the citizenship clause and Kavanaugh says they’re covered by statute. Thomas and Gorsuch say that they aren’t domiciled so the citizenship clause does not apply.

To some extent, Mr. Trump is in a box of his own making. He appears loath to agree to a settlement with Iran that hawkish critics in the Republican Party could brand as a retread of President Barack Obama’s 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran. (“No deal is better than a bad one,” is the refrain in that camp.)

This project would allow FEMA to work with the county to prepare for an earthquake scenario by assessing the needs of the community, with particular focus on public utilities, communication, transportation, hospitals, and emergency response teams. This project would not only address regional concerns, but a national one as well. Memphis has the largest freight airport in the world, the nation's 4th largest inland port, 3rd in Class 1 railroad service, 3rd most active trucking corridor, and over 40 percent of the natural gas supplied to the northeast comes through the region. This project was recommended by the Mayor of Shelby County and is also being requested by U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander.

If Democrats want to defeat authoritarianism, they need to win the trust of people who are not necessarily politically engaged. To do that, they could do worse than to start expressing their own hot takes on sports. These shouldn’t repeat already-popular opinions as a way to seem relatable. The perfect take should be actually unpopular, counter to the consensus, and specific. The Senate candidate James Talarico doesn’t need to run away from his meatless-taco order. Instead, he could prove that he’s a regular guy by calling into ESPN Austin to accuse the University of Texas quarterback Arch Manning of being a nepo baby who got millions of dollars just for his name. Or perhaps he could compare Jerry Jones, the Dallas Cowboys’ imperious owner, to Trump: an egotistical old man destroying a once-proud institution.

For governments outside the US and China, particularly low and middle-income countries, the competing economic superpower offers are now as follows. From the US you get forced into trade deals promising a future of burning fossil fuels whose price is subject to wildly destructive US adventurism. From China you get reliably cheap EVs and green tech to generate renewables. Admittedly these come with other forms of economic coercion attached, such as controls on rare earth minerals, but at least they don’t deliver juddering shocks to growth.

Some members of Trump’s team have joked that the president should reveal a major development in the Iran War the morning after this year’s dinner. “It was suggested that Trump should make a big move on the night the press are wining and dining so he ruins their night out,” said one insider.

I looked at the DEADLINE article that purports to be the source of this information and none of that was mentioned. It's funny that the right is so fucked up on the fact that the left is the dominant pop-cultural voice. It's not like it gives us a lot of power. I'd take a 6-3 SCOTUS leftist majority using veto power over conservative governance over the right controlling Hollywood six days a week and twice on Sunday. The fact that this wrecks them this bad will hopefully be one of the seeds of their undoing but don't ask me how we get there folks! Ask your Democratic lawmaker how they plan to get any of their policies past SCOTUS and when they give you some whack answer let 'em know that they need to develop the intestinal fortitude to pack the court! Wow this was quite the digression, sorry.

And this is an ongoing problem: Just last month here in my hometown, we had a former Border Patrol agent sentenced for having more than 350 images of child sexual abuse material on his phone while serving as an agent. ICE has all of its own problems — just three weeks ago, a detention officer at an ICE facility in Louisiana pleaded guilty to raping a Nicaraguan detainee for months. And an off-duty ICE officer who shot and killed a man in L.A. on New Year’s Eve had been accused of “allegedly whipp[ing] his sons with a belt and ma[king] racist and homophobic remarks in the past.”) Overall, CBP’s arrest and misconduct rate is FIVE TIMES higher than other federal law enforcement agencies — and, in fact, if you look over the last decade, the arrest rate of CBP officers and Border Patrol agents (.5%) has been HIGHER than the arrest rate of undocumented immigrants in the United States (.4%). To frame that a different way: In rough terms, the workforce of CBP officers and Border Patrol agents commit crimes at an equal or even greater rate PER CAPITA than the population of undocumented immigrants do in the United States. And, we are now in the process of repeating all of the same mistakes we made with the CBP hiring surge with ICE’s new hiring surge, which is going disastrously so far.
