I think Garmin knows that Shimano will soon release new DuraAce pedals with new cleats (PD-R9300 with SPD-SLR). According to the rumours, there should also be a variant with a power metre.

Good to see, but I’ll never go back. Nothing I did would get the first gen XCs to stop squeaking like a mouse in agony. I packed them so full of grease they wept constantly and still the most annoying squeak noise emanated from them. The Faveros are way better.
