Morning fog smoked itself across the water, wisps of light dancing in the summer heat where the barest trails of the cool night met the heat of day. The river folk gave no response, but she felt it as surely as the soreness in her body. They’d been visiting her for so long, that she no longer got shy about being seen. Not a single soul noticed. Now, with the house empty, she didn’t even need to sneak out early to get the catch. She yawned.
