Male Surge throws his mechanical pencil down after completing a sketch, “Whew. That’s that,” he remarks. He stretches in his chair as Female Surge unrobes behind a privacy wall, “Good job, another art challenge for the books. Tired yet?” Male Surge looks at his massive arm, it is overflowing with the raw essence of artistic motivation, “You kidding?” His face warps and becomes sinister, his eyebrows disappear and his eyes are blank as a wicked smile grows, replacing his usual frown, “I’m all warmed up now! Let’s get crackin’ on the new chapter!” Female Surge steps out from behind the wall and poses to show her new two-piece swimsuit, “TOO BAD! We’re going on a reeeeal VACATION this year!” Male Surge immediately deflates to his regular frowning face and shrouded eyes, “Gimmie, a break,” he mutters to himself, knowing work on the comic will be at a standstill for most of June. “That’s exactly what a vacation is,” Female Surge responds gleefully, uninterested in continuing to supervise the project for the time being. Her response is wittier than Male Surge was anticipating, “Funny,” he weakly says.
The Surges stand together to pose. Female Surge props up a large pen used for drawing tablets. Male Surge carries a large number 2 pencil.
the Surges sit on the floor while they play with handheld gaming devices; Female Surge has a Gameboy Advance and a large tablet-like device, similar to a Steam Deck or Switch 2, Male Surge has a controller attached to his smartphone. The two have an exchange, Female Surge starts first. “These things used to be portable, now you need a satchel to lug them around.” “You could always play them on your phone.” “You mean STREAM them? EW.” “No games on your phone? SAD!”
The Surges are at home doing chores. The CD in the stereo begins to skip, Female calls out, “Fred is skipping again.” Male Surge takes the disc out to clean it, to their surprise the CD is wrecked, littered with deep scratches and scuffs. Female Surge stares at it, knowing the CD is done for, “Hmmm… Maybe blowing on it might help.”
Male Surge sits at a desk with a bored expression on his face, suddenly a hand offers a folded note to him. Opening the piece of paper he sees the question “Are you smelly?” crudely written; there are two boxes he can check, the first is ‘yes’, the second is ‘yes’ again but written larger and also underlined. Female Surge is wholly amused by her prank, crying while she laughs. Male Surge sits there, slightly embarrassed for her.
Female Surge sits behind the computer with a bored expression. Male Surge approaches the telephone on the other side of the room, “You’ve been on there for 4 hours. I need to make a call,” he says, tired of waiting. She replies, “Did you know that you can hear data? That’s what that scary noise is, basically.” Male Surge is confused about the recently offered information and asks, “What?” Male Surge pulls the phone from the receiver and is immediately bombarded with static and other hellish noises coming from the telephone.
The Surges sit at the breakfast table and eat cereal. Male Surge holds up a glow-in-the-dark spoon that came in his box of cereal, “Check it! I got a sick glowy spoon in my box! Anything in yours?” Female Surge holds up her boxed prized, she is disappointed with what she gets. “Aw man… I got Evil Green Instant Death Stick AGAIN.” Male Surge is revealed to be entirely mechanical, the shorthand for ‘Surge Mark Three’ is written on his metal chest plate. “The searing heat feels great on my air-brushed plating,” he remarks.
The protagonist from flash game ‘Fancy Pants Adventure’ leaps over a chasm. The Surges are drawn in the style of Fancy Pants, a stick figure with hair and large pants. Female Surge leans over Male Surge’s chair as he plays, she asks, “A great choice, but why not Johnny Rocketfingers?” Male Surge flatly responds, “Fancy Pants is more PG.” Female Surge begins to recommend a second, more inappropriate flash game, but Male Surge cuts the conversation short by shouting, “STOP.”
The Surges stand around to show off their outfits; Female Surge wears a tight shirt, skinny jeans, a large fashion belt, and a leather cuff. Male Surge wears a large hoodie and baggy blue jeans. They have an exchange, Female Surge starts. “You weren’t even a goth, you just liked wearing black! You hated the emo aesthetic because you’re a contrarian hipster!” “Hey, I take offense to that. I just liked what I liked, and what I didn’t like, I ridiculed it.” “Very mature!” “Well, I don’t do it anymore [mostly].”
The Surges are at a store and looking through the collectibles section, Female Surge bends over to look at a current toy line people are hoarding: the Funky. “Ew. Icky little monsters,” she says, unamused by their designs. Male Surge is on his phone, he is in agreement with her, “At least Beanie Babies were a cute and fun exploitation of peoples’ consumption habits. Glad I never fell for that sort of thing.” Female Surge look over to him, finding his statement disingenuous, “Ain’t ya stacking up gunpla kits?” Male Surge begins sweating, knowing he’s been had, “… I’m not buying ALL of them.”
Female Surge sits on a couch while scrolling through her phone. Her hand is on her face, she’s upset about the vast amount of negative news online. “YEESH,” she exhales from mental fatigue, “How do you not feel all existential and powerless after reading all this awful news?” The two Surges then have an exchange, Male Surge begins. “Zero thoughts. No brain cells.” “I’m serious.” “Yeah, fine… I have my own things to worry about, I don’t spend a lot of time lamenting about things out of my control.” “Not really an empathetic mentality…” “Maybe not. I care. I also have bills to pay.”
The Surges are out enjoying a day frolicking outside in the wilderness. Female Surge skips joyfully through a meadow; trees, mountains, and scattered clouds paint a peaceful scene. Male Surge is looking worse for wear. He is stinky, sweaty, dirty, and sunburned. To make matters worse, there are arrows pointed these things out while the sun beams intense rays onto his head.
Female Surge sits in front of a computer, she is in an AOL chatroom. She is confused about the abbreviations in the chat. Male Surge is there as well, he rubbernecks over to see what she’s talking about. They go back and forth, Female Surge begins: “‘ASL?’ The heck does that mean?” “All Stupid Losers?” “American Sign Language?” “Awesome Stunning Lovlies?” “Aerobic Sweaty Ladies?”
The Surges are at a book fair, Male Surge holds up a book, Bridge to Terabithia. Their conversation is already underway, we drop in on their exchange; Female Surge begins. “Seriously? You never finished it because she died?” “Dude, yes. I wanted to read about a boy and a girl being friends and having adventures.” “Sure… It’s just kinda embarrassing to admit, don’t you think?” “… I was scammed as a child and you’re SHAMING ME?”
The Surges are lying on the floor in opposite directions. Female Surge looks over to Male Surge and says, “You know, a little color would really spruce up your drawings online.” He responds, “I flunked out of colored pencils class. I save that for the computer.” Above Male Surge floats a pointing hand, it holds a number of uncolored gel pens; this artistic decision is to highlight the shortcomings of not using color of any sort in this drawing.
A space cannon is seen firing a payload towards a planet. The Surges walk through a wasteland, Male Surge looks up and sees the cannon’s munition barrel towards the planet’s surface, his eyes bulge out of his head in horror. The payload makes contact with the ground and explodes, the burst of energy is so strong debris and Male Surge go flying, Female Surge is surprised by the sudden gust of wind. Female Surge and Male Surge’s skull make their way to the impact zone, they look down into a great crater. At the center of the hole is a Motorola i530, the two-way functionality chirps, showing that the phone is very much intact.
Female Surge stands next to Male Surge, who is sitting in a chair, she asks, “Whatcha got planned for ‘free space’ day?” With a thumbs up, he responds, “Nothin’!” The two face off and have a tense conversation, Female Surge responds, “You’re so damn lazy. You’re making decent stuff fast now, and you’re taking your foot off the throttle?!” Male Surge is unfazed by her statement , “YUP. You can’t guilt me into doing more than this, ME.”
Female Surge stretches her arm over her head and hears her joints produce sounds indicating wear and tear. “UGH. I think we’re getting ‘up there’ now…” she mentions, wincing in annoyance. “Nah, I don’t think so,” Male Surge replies. Male Surge crouches down and suddenly his knees explode with sound; they pop, grind, and crack violently. Female Surge is concerned at the sight.
A regular-sized Female Surge flies next to a super-colossal-sized Male Surge; they have an exchange, Female Surge starts: “We should really prepare for that THING coming up.” “Nooooo.” “Then where are you going when the world goes screwy, big brain?” “To WORK.”
Female Surge sits on a concrete cube, she has on a t-shirt with a skull on it that exposes her midriff, and a pair of JNCO Jeans.
Female Surge holds up a mixtape between her fingers, she has a wicked grin on her face. She says, “Records so sick your ears will BLEED!!” Male Surge frowns, knowing the tape well, “Anything but the Divorced Dad tape AGAIN…”
The Surges are drawn in a non-specific 90’s style. Female Surge says, “you ever notice you draw a ‘typical’ 90’s anime style for Mayllennial prompts, and not DBZ?” Male Surge responds, “I did, yeah. It’s so people think I watch anime, and not just DBZ.”
Male Surge is drawing his original characters when Female Surge walks in on him. In an annoyed tone she shouts, “HEY! Did you NOT hear me last week?! This is OUR super cool art month!” Male Surge turns around with glossy eyes, in the background are characters from my comic; Zezzotoli, Zoh, Zeteg, Zytila, and Zamsi. The Surges have an exchange, Male Surge starts first. “Without them I will cease…” “‘Cease?’” “ENTIRELY.” “Ugh, whatever. Don’t get used to it…”
Female Surge is sitting in front of a computer doing morally gray downloads. Male Surge peeks in and says, “That’s basically stealing, Ulrich said so.” She cuts her eyes over to him and responds, “I promise to buy the album after I finish it.” 49 minutes later the two finish the album, they are silent. Female Surge blurts, “THAT SUCKED. I’m not spending your money on that.” Male Surge flatly says, “Yeah thanks.”
Male Surge holds a Tallgeese Gundam model, he has recently finished assembling the gunpla kit. Female Surge asks him, “When are you going to grow up and get a REAL pet?” He replies, “Don’t talk about my son like that.”
A crude doodle of Male Surge can be seen on an old pc monitor. Female Surge holds a computer mouse in her hand, she has a proud expression on her face. “This digital stuff is so easy! Maybe *I* should be the artist from now on!”
Female Surge walks in on Male Surge eating the film out of a VHS tape, she is horrified at the sight. “WHY ARE YOU EATING THAT?!” She exclaims, he responds, “It’s a sequel gag to last year’s VHS prompt. Banning the blue fellers kinda ruined the punchline…”
Female Surge is placing glow in the dark stars on Male Surge’s face, “This isn’t gonna look good at all. You know that right?” He asks, she is unamused by his statement and replies, “That’s because you lack creativity! If you made anything good you’d have more faith in me.” The lights go off and the results of their craft project are revealed; the stars barely illuminate Male Surge’s face. “Well…?” He asks, unable to see for himself, she answers, “Eh. It looks kind of dumb. I thought it would look scarier. Oh well. Can’t all be hits, can they?”
The Surges sit on a couch watching television, most likely the news is on. They have a conversation, Female Surge begins: “So… it’s getting wild, eh?” “BUCK wild.” “Unethical levels of goof-ballery.” “It’s almost a rerun of 2007 at this point. War, cost of living, gas prices…” “Not exactly fun…” “At least AI farms killing us is new.” “A little too 1999-coded for me…”
A large Tamagotchi hangs behind the Surges, on the screen is a rendition of Male Surge, he is clearly sad, if his huge frown and wet eyes are any indication. The device itself is in the shape of Easter Island head. Female Surge points over her shoulder to the Surgagotchi and begins a brief conversation with the other Surge. “Look, taking care of yourself is easy. You just make sure all the meters are filled and do that forever until you win.” “Which one fills when I work 40 hours a week?” “None of them.” “Nice.”
A robotic hand holding a pen is drawing, a second hand has grabbed the wrist of the person drawing and they have a brief discussion. The person grabbing the artist’s wrist starts: “Nuh-uh. You can’t do Newgrounds AGAIN. That was last year. Pick something else.” “Nah, c’mon. It’s the only one I have.” “DON’T BE LAZY.” The two characters talking are revealed to be the artist’s namesake character, Surge, in both male and female form. Male Surge was the one drawing. The two resume their discussion, Male Surge starts: “It’s supposed to be a fun little prompt list. You’re just meant to have FUN.” “So you’re just gonna take it EASY all month? Just hanging out?” “Y-yeah?” “Then WE’RE hanging out TOGETHER! No silly blue fellers for you! Maybe draw my ears RIGHT next time!” “Aw, piss…” Female Surge is peeved I accidentally drew her with pointed ears like the characters from my comic, Debil|Debil. The Surges are not the same types of devils and therefore have neither tails or pointy ears, but it’s been a while since I have drawn them, so I forgot. Oopsie. Also, I usually draw art of any one of my OC [original characters], but this year I’m using as few as possible, just to make this Mayllennial easier on myself!
Escort and Scout split up and return to their respective stations, the mountains and a swirling haze in the sky can be seen in the background. The blood from the three devils has run across the dirt to spell out ‘To Be Continued’, a message to the reader that the story will in fact resume after they finish reading those three words.
The creature bites with a thunderous ‘CHOMP’ and blood violently jettisons into the sky, along with Zamsi’s hat. Only a pool of blood remains where Zamsi, Ana, and Rex were standing; a trail of retreating footsteps are seen leaving the area. Both Scout and Escort are left to simply watch the third creature rapidly flee, they can only take commands, not act of their own accord. Zamsi’s hat lands on Scout’s head, both he and Escort look over to it in wonder of his newfound fashion sense.
The couple are horrified by the monster, it’s absolutely the scariest one they’ve seen so far. “HOLY FUCK!!” Ana screams, Rex immediately hunches over and barfs. Zamsi is genuinely appalled by their reactions, “HEY. Don’t be a fuckin’ dick to her. Escort is a cute gal.” She notices that they aren’t looking in the direction of Escort, a new creature that walks with several arms and has a lizard-like body. “What’re ya looking at?” Zamsi begins to ask, turning around to see what has their attention. Behind Zamsi the previous monster has hastily approached and its worth is now wide open. Dozens of sharp, jagged teeth fill the entirety of the mouth, even on what is considered ‘the roof’ of the mouth, which this creature has two of. The teeth continue down the throat of the monster.
“Ah! Here she comes now!” Zamsi exclaims, pointing past the couple and towards the creature she summoned with the flare. Rex and Ana look over to see a massive monster skid to a halt; the body is similar to a muscular male’s torso, but the head is spherical with a large mouth that splits the head vertically. There are eyes that dot both sides of the head.
Ana turns around to face Zamsi as Rex stands by her side, still partially dazed and really confused on how the other cuff was fastened to his wrist. “You know we’re both going to be fighting you the whole way, right?” Ana asks, seeing no reason to cooperate with Zamsi, now that she crushed Rex with her massive mount. Zamsi continues to look to the sky as the flare illuminates the sky; she responds, “Noooo, ya sure ain’t. We’re going to sit tight right here, kids.” Before Ana can sarcastically ask, ‘Is that so?’ Zamsi loudly answers with, “SURE IS.” The two women have an exchange. Ana starts, with Zamsi responding: “Sorry that we interrupted your very important day-drinking, Miss…” “I bet ya are, girl… How’d ya guess?” “You REEK of it.” “Ah.” As they have their conversation, a new monster hastily makes its way to their location. Its handprints are massive in the dirt, it runs with two hands as it carries a large body that drags behind it. It’s exposed, jagged teeth allow saliva to escape its massive maw. “What are waiting for?” Ana asks. “Your ride,” Zamsi responds.
The cocoon falls from Rex’s face and lands as a dried husk on the hard dirt, it’s the first thing Rex sees. He only mutters, “What the fuck,” to himself in a shaky voice. Before he can even grab his bearings Ana plows into him for an embrace; if she had her hands free she would have wrapped him tightly with a hug. She is relieved to see he’s alive— well, they’re all dead, but at least he’s not DEAD dead. Zamsi lets out a loud fake gasp, “Well, look at that, girl! He made a full recovery! Who woulda thunk it could happen?!” Ana turns around to shoot daggers at the woman, Rex’s eyes are wide open in pure shock. Zamsi continues, “Seriously. Did you dimwits forget you fell outta the FUCKIN’ SKY?”
The long, tentacle-like appendages strike downwards and burrow into the neck of Rex, blood and the tar-like substance mixes together as they fall and pool onto the ground. The tentacles begin to swell and merge into each other, making a sort of cocoon vaguely in the shape of a human head. Horns burst from the cocoon as the area around the eyes falls away, while more of the black substance runs from where the eye sockets would be. The cocoon now looks more like a face, semblances of a nose and mouth forms; the lower region of the face begins to stretch and tear as a jaw attempts to open. After some strain the cocoon gives and the jaw flies open wide, as the head returns to a normal resting position the skin from within the eye sockets begins to push out and bulge. They rerupt with a shower of blood and the eyes hang from the socket by their optical nerves. They quickly retract and fly back into the skull that lies behind the withering cocoon.
Ana quickly whips her head around to the spot where Rex lay. His beheaded body has risen and is on its knees, attempting to stand upright. Blood runs down from his neck stump, a bubbling black tar-like substance rises from within the body and overflow over the neck. Several tentacles erupt from the neck and wave in the air around Rex’s body.
With the cuffs on her wrists, Ana curls into the fetal position. “Job well done, i’d say,” Zamsi comments to herself now that both of her subjects are handcuffed and accounted for. She reaches into her bag a pulls out a flare gun, she aims it towards the sky and deploys the flare. “You can drop the sulking act now, You’re not foolin’ me,” Zamsi says to Ana, who looks up with tears in her scornful eyes. “GO FUCK YOURSELF,” she forcefully says without shoutiing; Zamsi looks at her unimpressed by her emotional lash-out, but recognizes that she isn’t trying to play on Zamsi’s emotions. “You’re serious then. Jeez. You know you can’t die down here, right?” A twitching can be seen in Rex’s right hand.
Zamsi loops the reins around the saddle’s horn before dismounting Scout, she leans around the large creature to see what has happened upon landing. “Oops. Meant to jump over them,” she says to herself, “Coulda at least landed on the other one.” Scout raises his hoof so Zamsi can continue her work, a large strand of blood and viscera follows the hoof up. “EW,” Zamsi plainly expresses, “Guess you weren’t so hard-headed after all, eh, Zet?” She leans down and pulls Rex’s arms together in order to fasten the other handcuff to his right hand. Zamsi then makes her way over to Ana, who sits on the ground with her head hung; Zamsi squats in front of her, “Sorry about your… Boyfriend? Husband? Eh. Whatever.” A moment passes, Ana does not respond, Zamsi continues before the silence drags on too long, “Got a pair of cuffs for ya. Nice and shiny.” There is another silence, Ana is completely despondent, “You need ‘help’ too?” Zamsi asks. Ana raises her hands to her face and presents her wrists to Zamsi. “Atta girl,” she replies to the woman’s compliance.

One of Scout’s massive legs comes crashing down and an intense spurt of blood is launched into the air. A drop of it hits Ana’s cheek, she is shocked at first, then emotionally devastated. Scout has landed squarely on Rex’s head, not even his hair is visible from underneath the massive ‘hoof.’
Rex helps balance Ana as they scurry away from Zamsi, “We were running because you did something stupid… Now we’re do it because of ME,” she reflects, almost understanding Rex’s impulsive response that lead them to their current position. To distract from her injury, she asks Rex, “Hey, do you like girls with a few scars?” Rex smiles, “Love ‘em now.” “Good, because this one feels huge,” she comments back, but Rex has turned his head and appears alerted to something. “Sorry,” he says. Before Ana can ask, “For what,” Rex throws her to the side with all his strength, as she stumbles away she catches a glimpse of what Rex saw: the monster Zamsi rode on is jumping towards their position.
Rex hastily crouches down to check on Ana, “ANA!! Are you okay?!” Ana looks up towards him, she nurses the area around her eye, a deep slash has bloodied almost the entirety of the right side of her face; “NO. You’re welcome, by the way…” Rex grabs her wrist to help her stand up, “You’re supposed to AVOID headbutts, babe.” Ana fires back with, “And you’re supposed to LAND sucker punches,” to which Rex can only say, “Fair.” Meanwhile Zamsi is doubled over in agony as she winces in pain, “These things are a pain in the ass…” she mutters to herself, never having someone kick her straight in the testes before. She is able to raise her head enough to threaten the couple with a malice-soaked tone, “You two are so f—” but to finish the sentence would be futile, as they are already running away from her location. “Son of a bitch…” she mutters to herself before pointing towards them and shouting, “HEY! GET BACK HERE!” Rex flips her off and responds with, “Fuck off!” Zamsi tries to whistle using her fingers twice to no avail, only blowing air; “Aw fuck it,” she murmurs to herself before calling out to Scout, “SCOUTY BOY!! LET’S RIDE!”
Two devils sit together at a table, they have on formal evening wear. On the left is Rex, he sits with his fingers interwoven; to his right is Ana, who is leaned over towards him. They have an exchange, Rex starts and Ana responds after: “You know, I sure learned a lot today, Ana.” “Like to not act on all your bad impulses?” “No, that 6’6” girls hit really fucking HARD.” A huge impression of a fist sits where Rex’s face should be.
Rex squeezes his eyes closed and waits for Zamsi’s fist to crash into his face, he doesn’t have time to try and cover up. A moment passes and his face relaxes slightly, unsure what’s going on with her delayed punch. Rex opens an eye as he thinks ‘Kinda… taking a while,’ to himself. To his surprise Ana’s knee is firmly wedged into Zamsi’s groin, saving Rex from a nose-shattering strike. He is shocked to see Ana intervening, ‘What is she—?!’ He half thinks to himself. Ana stares Zamsi in the face with a ferocious and protective expression, with food in her mouth she attempts to say, “Hands off my man, you bitch,” but is cut short when Zamsi doubles over in pain and unintentionally headbutts Ana with her large horns. Zamsi screams out, “MY FUCKING BOYS,” as she goes down; Ana spits out her food reflexively as her eye receives a gruesome gash.
The sound of handcuffs racking closed catches Rex and Ana off guard, Rex now has a silver cuff around his left wrist. “Cool bracelet,”” Zamsi compliments, her forced smile now a more natural jeer, “Mr. Nice Broad is done now. Shut your fucking mouth.” Rex doesn’t appreciate the blindsiding, Zamsi’s tone doesn’t help either. Rex’s fight or flight always leans towards ‘fight’ as indicated by his twitching hand. Give me your other—” Zamsi’s command is abruptly cut short as Rex swings his free hand at her, his right hook whiffs, but it does surprise Zamsi. She goes from startled to seething anger. “FUNNY,” she shouts from between her teeth. She matches Rex’s hook with a lightning-fast right straight aimed directly between his eyes.
