Spanish violinist Antonio Brosa (1894-1979). Brosa moved to London in 1914 and worked with many of the leading Britten composers and musicians of the 1930s. He was introduced to Benjamin Britten by Britten's teacher Frank Bridge, and the two men became great friends

English poet & Jesuit priest Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844-1889). 'Ad maiorem Dei gloriam' is a motto that occurs throughout the writings of Ignatius de Loyola (1491–1556), the founder of the Jesuit order of which Hopkins was a member. Hopkins wrote it in several of the texts Britten studied while choosing and setting his texts.
