May 30, 1989: Chinese protestors in Tiananmen Square erect a 33' tall statue they called the Goddess of Democracy, to defy the government's crackdown on them. It took 4 days to build, out of foam & paper mâché. Soldiers tore it down on June 4th. Countless replicas have been made around the world.
