Electricity can come from renewable resources. Oil is finite and destructive. It also takes out the carbon Dioxide out of the atmosphere. thats a good thing.

Also, even once we are off fossil fuels for--well--fuels Oil and petroleum are still *incredibly important precursors* for a SHIT TON of chemistry and pharmaceuticals! Being able to generate that is really useful!
I feel like the person criticizing this is forgetting that science is an ongoing process. Now that they know how to make oil, the next step is making the process more efficient.
Apparently when burned, it returns back as CO2. So thats like.. just straight 100% lossless renewable oil.
These were my thoughts too. Energy will eventually be basically free and infinite for us. But fuel is a very compact energy source. Even if we go electric cars, we'll still probably need fuel for planes, or at the very least rockets. And if we can harvest the fuel from the atmosphere its a loop.
This is primitive tech for the japanese... After all they can already turn their steps into energy!
Probably a net good, especially with the bullshit the US is pulling in the middle east. Its good to have energy variety and whatnot. But with this being such a new thing, we should probably be at least a little weary of it in case theres some bad side effects of the process.
I see this as a huge win! Only problem is if other countries will do the same or not. Would even the oil tycoons want to make this a renewable resource?
Also a better use of electrics then AI Datacenters >_>;
