inside the air pocket formed between the two connected pieces, and also making sure that there's no chafing/discomfort caused by the zippers I think I might've thought up a solution though? Just add a second zipper along an orthogonal axis! have the bottom zipper run along underneath the padding>>

and add in a zipper at the wrist and have the padding sewn up with a little padded loop at the wrist area for the zipper to connect to, and to also provide some downward pressure on the back of the hand/wrist to restrict upward wrist flection. At least, I think this should work?
