You take a seat across from Tom’s corpse, perching atop the lush leather. You can’t sit back, can’t relax. It’s hard to tear your eyes away from the dead body. Your oh so grand apartment doesn’t offer much else to focus on. The majestic glass wall with its unparalleled view of London has left you exposed. Every little gleam and glimmer out there could be some wannabe reporter looking in. The beautiful framed art lining the walls is too abstract; with the lights dimmed, all you’re left with is an army of silhouettes, stained with muted pastels, flanking you. Encircling you. Judging you. But hey. Maybe it’ll work. You sit there. There’s no dramatic roll of thunder or peel of bells. No sulfur and brimstone either. Just you, the dead body, the gentle beat of rain… and the box.
