With this mark comes with the ability to re-raise themselves if they choose to. Because of this, Geras had unwittingly been using it to get himself back up. When it activates the fatal wound magically mends, and the Ancient self takes control for a brief moment to get Geras out of the way or deal with the threat before releasing control. The wound mends just enough that it is no longer life-threatening but still needs to be tended to. The only time this wasn't activated was at the end of base EW. Times he had died: Age 5- drowned in a river by accident Age 14- stabbed by a bandit while protecting half-sister Age 28- bled out after Ifrit clawed him; Lahabrea's attack in Praetorium Age 29- a aevis bit nearly half of him off when helping patrol with Camp Dragonhead.
