The committee empanels review committees to determine the recipients of annual awards issued by SDS, and recruits nominees for board elections. Submit your nomination by 4 June 2026 dissstudies.org

The Events and Conference committee identifies presenters for SDS events, including book talks, work-in-progess talks, round tables, and panels, as well as working to organize conferences and workshops. 2. The Nominations and Elections committee empanels review committees to determine the recipients of annual awards issued by SDS, and recruits nominees for Board elections. 3. The Membership Engagement committee sustains and expands SDS membership, individually by developing year-round SDS member involvement, and supporting outreach and fundraising activities. 4. The Publications and Communications committee manages SDS’s social media intern program, recruits and provides support for review editors and Disability Studies Quarterly’s editors, and prepares publicity materials related to SDS events and other announcements. 5. Call for Applications: Assistant Editor of Disability Studies Quarterly One week left to apply! Deadline: April 15, 2026 Responsibilities will comprise no more than 250 work hours over a one-year (52-week) period; a five-hour/week commitment should be the average though the weekly load fluctuates based on the journal’s quarterly deadlines. The SDS President will provide additional support as needed and address funding requests for any needed disability access accommodations; such funding will be in addition to the $5,100 stipend. disstudies.org

SDS 2026 Awards Category First Book Award Celebrates an author’s first single-authored book that makes a significant contribution to Disability Studies. Eligibility: Authors of a debut scholarly monograph published within the last two years. Nominations: Self-nominations and publisher nominations accepted. Include a 3-page letter describing the book’s innovation and impact. Submission: Via the SDS Nominations and Awards Form. Electronic copies of books are required for review. Physical copies of books may be requested for review - by 31st March 2026

SDS 2026 Awards Category Irving K. Zola Emerging Scholar Award Honors early-career scholars or graduate students whose work reflects the legacy of sociologist Irving K. Zola, emphasizing disability pride, identity, and culture. Eligibility: Graduate students, early-career scholars, or those within three years post-terminal degree. Nominations: Self- and/or mentor-nominations accepted. Include a letter (up to 3 pages) connecting the nominee’s work to Zola’s values, contributions, and vision - submit by 31st March 2026

Eligibility: Doctoral researchers only; manuscripts must not be dissertation chapters. Nominations: Faculty mentors must submit a three (3) page letter of nomination with the manuscript. Award: The recipient receives mentorship toward submission to Disability Studies Quarterly - submit by 31st March 2026
