Slender, erect tuberous geophyte up to 35cm with a softly-haired stem. Leaves 1-2 narrow, lance-shaped, up to 9cm, a few small pointed leaves sheath the stem; flowers are purple to magenta, occasionally white or green, with the upper sepal forming a spurred hood and the long, trailing side sepals forming the ribbons of a "granny bonnet"; petals and lip shortly hairy. - Fernkloof.org.za
The common padloper(tjie) is a small, relatively flat tortoise. Its shell usually has varied colouration, ranging between olive-green and brown. The shields of the carapace are flat, with large raised areolae, and a thin black edging. The average length is 110mm, though females are larger than males. Their adult weight ranges from 140-300 g. It has a sharp, distinctly hooked beak. -iNaturalist.
