Wolf 3d would be the first but I only really played Doom a lot. We used to mod the sound files. I remeber the pink demon running around yelling steven steven. It was hilarious.

Played the shareware version when I was 3 years old thanks to some very neglectful parents. Still love it too this day.

I was 12. Family bought our first PC, a 486SX. I went to the shops and proudly came home with a copy of Flashback, but my brother's friend had installed shareware DOOM for us while I was out. There was no contest.

This is all I have left by now. Of course, I’ve got the whole series on Steam. I first played it on SNES, then later on PlayStation. I only bought a Nintendo 64 for Doom 64; I didn't have any other games for it. 😀

DOOM shareware from a...Dillard's (???) back in 94 I think. 1 Floppy disk version where it basically changed my life forever.

Playing MS-DOS DOOM II LAN co-op with a friend. Must've been about 10 years old. I opened a door and was immediately smacked in the face by a Cyberdemon's rocket, reducing me to slop. I can still hear my friend cackling in the next room.

Got Doom as my first game with the Playstation. It was amazing. That wonderful (and exclusive intro) Having Doom 1 & 2 together plus some wild secret levels. One of my best memories as a gamer. Happy birthday, IdSoftware and to 35 more years of games. ❤️

2016 on Switch was my intro but Eternal was the game that really sucked me into the franchise. And now Dark Ages and Eternal are both in my top 5 favourite shooters with Eternal being number 1.

Just Kris is fine · Feb 2

Doom 2016 on PS4 back in 2018. I grabbed Doom Eternal on release but my obsession with the franchise, and id Software, started in 2023.

I think my 'fanboy level' is best summed up by a concept I live by, which is called 'id tax'. It means I upgrade my gaming hardware exclusively according to id Software releases. Starting with getting a Pentium for Quake in 1996 - to most recently grabbing a PS5 Pro just for The Dark Ages.

Doom deathmatch via serial connection at my friend’s house.

Bought 2Mb of RAM for my 386-SX40 to have 4 and play Doom and the guy I bought from showed it running on an Amiga 1200 in a window, as I recall. Coming from DOS it was a shock to see something like that.

Mordun Solar · Feb 2

I think the first Id game I played was Doom shareware on a CD that had 99 other demos and shareware games. Finished it the old school way: keyboard only controls

Matron Monstrous · Feb 5

Original DOOM was the very first computer game I was introduced to, I would watch my grandfather play it for hours.

Chloe (Commander Skittles) 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ · Feb 2

My introduction to Doom was Doom 3's BFG edition and I played the Xbox live version of Doom 1 religiously

DOOM 3

MondySpartan · Feb 3

Not exactly sure but I think the Doom Crossing meme in 2020 indirectly led to my curiosity towards the Doom franchise and eventually, other id titles as well as other classic FPS titles.

Henrique Pimentel · Feb 2

DOOM 2 !

Cody1075 · Feb 3

Playing QUAKE II in coop with my dad in the 360 port and watching him play through QUAKE 4. He also says I would watch him play QUAKE II on his lap when I was 1 year old in 97 lol

UnknownOO3 · Feb 2

I’m in the minority, but DOOM 64. Was merely a scared 5 year old when I played it in the N64 days

Parallax Abstraction · Feb 3

My first interaction was one of the Commander Keen shareware episodes. Then I remember playing Wolfenstein 3D on a demo computer at a short-lived Canadian chain store called A-Plus Software. The guy let me play as long as I wanted because I was selling copies of the game apparently. 🙂 Good memories.

TheMattLuigi · Feb 2

It is sad that Bethesda and Xbox are not interested in creating real physical copies anymore. There doesn't seem to be any data on the discs or cartridges :(

RealmsOfTheDark · Feb 5

Playing Doom 2 on a Windows 98 virtual machine. The following year or so I got the Depths of Doom trilogy for Christmas.

Karl He/Him · Feb 3

Wolfenstein 3D, followed by Doom and Doom 2 used to 1v1 deathmatch via serial cable on the doom games all the time.
