Cover is from the 1973 edition of the book. Cover image is a black and white sketch with splashes of color. The dominant color is purple of a night sky over black, leafless trees. The title “Slave Girl” is centered on the top third of the cover with “Original title: Cowslip” written in smaller letters underneath. Main centered image is a young Black girl wearing a peach-colored dress and a yellow bandana. She is running toward the left-hand side of the cover, looking back over her shoulder as if searching for pursuers. She wears heavy black shoes on her feet. Trivia: I believe this book was the first introduction I had to chattel slavery in the United States. Also, the author, Betsy Hayes also wrote the 1986 book “The Great Mom Swap” which was made into a TV movie in 1995.
Cover is the 1995 US paperback edition of Mary Gentle's Grunts! (1992) Background of the cover is in shades of orange and cave-like; three figures can be seen standing on gold coins, jewels and other items from what is likely a dragon’s horde. All three are orcs – green-skinned, tusked figures. One in the back is firing what appears to be a laser rifle, through the upraised arms of a second who has a Warhammer raised as if to pummel the third, who is sitting on the ground, staring up into the muzzle of an assault rifle. The book is dark comedy and not recommended for younger readers. Check out the listing on TV Tropes for more information.
Cover is from the 1962 hardcover edition. The image split in half; top half is a light blue with the title “Raiders From the Rings” and author’s name, Alan E. Nourse written in white and black lettering, respectively. A thin white line separates the two halves. The bottom half is purple with mid-century modern stylized drawings of spaceships approaching a planet that is faded into the background and surrounded by thin black arching lines. Trivia: I first read this book in high school and attempted to buy it from the school librarian because I enjoyed it that much. She didn’t sell it to me but fortunately, I found a paperback copy not long afterwards.

The sky is an evening shade of blue. Trivia: this book is an alternate history, set during the reign of the fictional King James the Third in the early 19th century. The book assumes James the II wasn't deposed during the Glorious Revolution of 1688. (On a personal note, this book instilled in me a life-long love of cheese) The series, the Wolves Chronicles is 11 books long.
Cover of Bill Mauldin's Up Front - his memoir of being a cartoonist for Stars and Stripes during World War II, during which he served in the European theatre; cover is split, with top one-third being dark green with the title "Up Front" in tan lettering; the bottom two-thirds are the same tan color with a group of World War II era soldiers drawn in Mauldin's style, with his main characters Willie and Joe up front. The bottom inch or so of the cover is also in green with Mauldin's name in tan lettering again. Maudlin was as well-known for his Willie and Joe comics during World War II and was also a political cartoonist in civilian life. Trivia: if you saw the MASH episode where a general shoots a flattened jeep after a tank runs over it, that's a reference to a famous Mauldin cartoon.
Cover of the 1982 omnibus edition of Edmond Hamilton's space opera series "Starwolf" Features a person in the front center of the cover wearing a red and green space suit/coveralls and firing a laser pistol to the right of the screen. Background includes a big white starship and a small group of aliens. Trivia: these books were adapted into a TV series in Japan and later edited into two movies for the US market where they featured on Mystery Science Theatre 3000 as Fugitive Alien and Star Force: Fugitive Alien II. The books - The Weapon From Beyond (1967); The Closed Worlds (1968) and World of the Starwolves (1968) are available as audiobooks.
