Martin Doudoroff @doudoroff.com · Jul 1 Another example I have at hand is from this 1949 Albert Pick catalog. “Boston shaker” was surely a term in use, but they felt no obligation to use it. This was not a “set”, either, just the tin portion, which you could pair with various glasses they also sold.

I discussed this at some length in my "Cocktail Shaker" entry for the Oxford Companion. The problem is, with no central authority, over time and distance the same names get applied to various types of shakers and the shakers they're attached to now are not the ones they were attached to then.
