Okay, so, consider this: Chibodee Crockett, pride and joy of Neo-America, is a trans man– and he thought he ended up with the Queen of Spades appellation because the former Shuffle Alliance or the crest itself or something somehow knew about him, it *knew* and the title was chosen to mock him– and sometimes he fears that going public could cock up his reputation enough to put his boxing career and his *dream* in jeopardy, because is that the kind of person his country wants repping them on the world stage - will it screw up the shining example narrative they’ve set up - will they still be proud of him?
――Zechs, especially in his relationship with Relena, calls Char to mind. Sumizawa: That’s right, he was modeled on Char. But here’s the twist: Heero was also Char. In fact, all of them were. The idea from the start was, “Let’s have every character deliver the kind of striking lines Char would say.” In the proposal stage, we actually wrote down “signature lines” for each character. “Because this character believes this, he’ll act this way in this situation.” That was how we built them. As a result, the characters began to move on their own from their respective positions. It wasn’t that we calculated every action, Heero and the others simply started to live and act by themselves. That’s why I don’t remember struggling much to write their dialogue.
What are they getting out of this? Chibodee: someone he can safely let his guard down with; a balm to loneliness; freaky sex George: the rush of having power over someone so larger-than-life, both sexually and the power to raise his spirits; someone he doesn't have to keep up pretenses with What attracted them? Chibodee: "goddamn he's pretty"; his ironclad loyalty; the way he can be both passionate and unflappable George: his indomitable spirit; his unapologetic self-expression; the hidden soft side Why are they like this? Chibodee: unexpected trust-building, flirtatious chemistry, and rejection-fueled snap decisions led to a beautiful burgeoning friendship becoming a messy situationship, and he's afraid saying anything will ruin both, so physical communication it is George: "I know I'm not who his heart longs for, but the way he puts it, he feels safe with me in a way he hasn't with anyone else. Not that he'll admit as much in the light of day. But he doesn't expect the world of me, and he's very good at what he does, so if this is what we need to be for now, so be it.”

“They’re at it again,” he says, as if she doesn’t know. He looks tired. She bristles. The messages from headquarters are allegedly meant to be motivators, but on the ground they look more like psychological torture. “They have no faith in you, in us.” “Then why would they have me fight at all?” She doesn’t have an answer for him. She has a few suspicions, but they are too disgusting to even be spoken. “You know why you fight. That’s what matters.” He sits down, but says nothing. “Their methods are counterintuitive. I’ll mitigate as best I can so you can be at your peak.” He looks away. “Mm.” She puts a hand on his shoulder, adding quietly, “For whatever it may be worth, I have faith in you.” He reaches for her hand, covering it with his own. “Nastasha,” he says evenly, meeting her eyes. She leans in, halting only a moment to break the gaze before closing the gap between them. It isn't much more than a brush of their lips, but it is solemn and heavy, and it is soft in a way neither of them often get to be. For a moment, they let the silence hang. "You could get into a lot of trouble for that," he finally says, as if she doesn't know. He doesn't seem to think he's worth the trouble.

No, I mean it - you're gonna get suckered into doing things against your will, lose control of yourself, be humiliated in front of the whole world, face things you've been avoiding your entire life, learn what it's like to put your life on the line for someone else. And after all that you won't even win! I know you already have to fight to keep hope alive - you thought you were finally done having trouble thrown at you - and this is really gonna test you. But at the end of it, you get to be part of something so much bigger. You get the admiration of your whole nation - people all over the world, even. And you're gonna make the best damn friends a guy can have. Yes, even the one you think you hate at first. Especially him. And remember you've got the gals too. They're family. Learn to lean on them a little, would ya? Believe it or not, that's what friends are for! I know that's still a lesson we're learning, that being friendly is not the same as having friends. Friends support each other, and that still feels a little too much like leaving yourself open to attack. I get it. And they'll get it too, if you just tell ‘em. But it's so worth it. You've got this. Keep shining, kiddo.

You finally made it to the colony, where you don't have to hustle or steal or fight for your life anymore - well, I guess you're fighting for your life in a different way now. But those habits are gonna be hard to break. You're either gonna avoid trusting anyone, or you're gonna wanna dig in and not let go. Learn when someone's not working in your best interest, sure, don't be careless, but you're gonna have to learn how to trust people sometimes if you're gonna make it. Your manager and your tutor are there to help you out - take it. You can do that now. You're safe.

Thoughts that are probably obvious but nobody mentions: As much as I want to just joke and say "George ALSO has a ginormous crush on Domon and doesn't even know it" I think it's deeper than that, or at least not that alone. I think his sense of self is so tied up in honor and duty and being a weapon that he doesn't know how to handle wanting something (a fight? a connection?) for himself outside of the wants of his nation, and that is some really delicious repression. So he has the big meltdown over being forced out of the battle because he's never wanted something so badly that his role as a knight *didn't allow* - and who is he if not a knight? ... This rewatch is knocking some George thoughts loose tonight, because I also had the thought "when Michelo sabotages the barrier in the George/Chapman fight, it's not just holding the princess/audience hostage, it is specifically threatening him with a repeat of the Marseilles Tragedy"
Give me a fanfiction trope and I'll grade it: A: Love it. Spend my time combing AO3 for it. B: Like it. Not one of my bigger cravings, but it can scratch a certain itch if I'm in the right mood. C: Neutral. A good author might be able to sell it, but a bad one will kill it deader than dead. D: Not my favorite. I avoid it if I can, but it won't necessarily put me off reading something. F: Hate it. Will immediately make me nope out of a fic.

Okay so hear me out. Once upon a time @inmateofthemind joked that Chibodee had a degradation kink based on how badly Domon treated him in his debut episode. But listen. The fixation started out as revenge, that’s clear enough. But then when the misunderstanding is cleared up, and when Domon whoops him, what does he do? Take his victory and run? Brag about it? No, he *encourages and reassures* Chibodee, who immediately falls into despair (“why don’t you just finish me off?”) and thinks a loss deserves rejection by his fans. Which is an attitude I can dig into on its own, that he’s only worth something as long as he wins, but. *That’s* what leaves him gobsmacked. And as a bonus, this happens *again* in their very gay finals showdown. (Which also says something about Domon being very sweet and encouraging when he wants to be. Maybe that “communicating with your fists” makes it easier for him to see when it’s needed.) Anyway, I submit this to the gallery: Chibodee doesn’t have a degradation kink, he has a *praise* kink.
Who hogs the blankets? They know better than to only have one blanket Who wakes up first? Domon is up with the sun. Force of habit. Who wants to stay in bed just a bit longer? Chibodee wakes up fairly early himself (if he's not hungover), but God help you if you get him up before he's good and ready Who always makes coffee for the other each morning? Domon probably flips the machine on before he goes to meditate/work out/whatever Who cries during certain films or when reading sad books? Chibodee is unsettled at how many iconic kids’ films involve the death of a parent Who gets scared during horror films? Depends on the type of horror, but Chibodee is more likely to get scared (or triggered, rather) during the movie; if Domon is affected, it's more in the form of being jumpier after it's over. Who cuts the other's hair? Oh my god Domon is not allowed anywhere near Chibodee's hair with scissors, are you crazy Who says "I love you" first? I mean, Chibodee confesses his feelings first, and he does use the L word, but he's not as straightforward as the question implies. The big “I love you” moment is probably later on, one day in bed, when Domon rasps “Aishiteru” against Chibodee's skin, and Chibodee has picked up just enough Japanese to be stunned
Who is the most affectionate? It comes more naturally to Chibodee Most common argument? Stupid little things that aren't really the thing they're mad about Who apologizes first? Probably Chibodee? But I think they both tend toward other methods of making up (food as peace offering is common) Favorite (non-sexual) activity to do together? Depends how sexual you consider sparring Who drives and who rides shotgun? The rule is that Chibodee isn't allowed behind the wheel if he hasn't taken his Adderall. Who is most likely to carry the other? I almost wanna say Domon, because carrying is the next step up from helping Chibodee up to lean on him. Though of course the reverse would be less physically awkward (and Chibodee would relish the opportunity)
Who first brought up the option of marriage? Was it an easy topic? Chibodee suggested it offhand as a solution to Neo Japan meddling with Domon (because they can't if he's tied to Neo America), and that broke the ice for more serious discussions later Which one proposed? Was it grand and public? Discreet and private? Was it expected? Oh God, Chibodee busted his ass planning the perfect proposal… and then Domon seized the moment and popped the question, and did it in a more beautiful and poetic way than Chibodee would have, and all Chibodee could do was pull out the ring and laugh Show us their engagement and/or wedding rings! Okay, the picture isn't working, but imagine matching gold Damascus steel bands with a cosmic-looking inlay of alexandrite and meteorite Did they plan the wedding by themselves, with help, or with a professional planner? The gals helped with some things, then hooked them up with a professional wedding planner after they started getting carried away. (Like “Janet, I love you, but I think you're planning your dream wedding.”) Was the planning and time up til the wedding stressful? They both sometimes regret not just eloping, but others remind them that they wouldn't have been able to keep their mouths shut about that. Domon is stressed out at the entire concept of being the center of a big party; Chibodee is mostly concerned about keeping out nosy paparazzi. Who were the first people to find out about the engagement? How did they react? I feel like the gals are the obvious answer here, though Schwarz probably has them rivaled for levels of “I saw this coming”

The venue is outdoors ("On the beach, baby!") and the ceremony is intimate. Chibodee marks that it's close to home, where Domon comments "define home, I guess". It is fairly non-traditional, with a small guest list ("no press allowed") and custom vows. They're both stressed, but Domon much more so. They agree to preserve the boutonnieres (which was corrected from bouquet). The right column includes the season (late spring) and the wedding colors (red, blue, white, gold). A question about their first dance sparks the conversation "First idea was When I See You Smile" / "We didn't end up dancing" / "Yeah, outdoor dance floor didn't work out". Their cake, with an illustration, is vanilla bourbon with strawberries and mascarpone. Finally, their outfits are illustrated - white suits with lapels/vests/ties in red and blue respectively. The suit patterns are not perfectly matching - the lapels are different shapes, Domon has a bow tie while Chibodee has a longer necktie, Chibodee's pants are slightly flared, and of course Domon has his cape over one shoulder.

personally I don't think if you're a kid you should be using your real name on the internet. very easy for people to find out too much about you. instead you should spend years using a different made-up name that becomes part of your persona to an arguably even greater degree than your actual name and then when you grow up and find out you're trans you have a ready-made name to switch to even if it's probably like Leaf or something
