Today is a dark day for democracy, for America, and for nations around the world who are impacted by our decisions here. I went to bed with cautious optimism and woke up at 3am with a fear I have not experienced in a very long time. We had the possibility of electing a highly qualified Black woman to the nation's highest position, and we chose the white man who is a convicted felon with connections to Nazis. I wish I had words of optimism, support, and faith right now. But this whole nation just said "you don't have a future here." What I can say is please take care of yourselves today. Please remember to drink water, eat some food, and take your meds. Please sleep if you can. If you are in recovery, please reach out to your support systems and sponsors. We are going to need each other. There are a lot of people who deciding if they are going to stay and fight like hell, or leave while they still can and frankly I support both paths. Regardless, we have a lot of work to do on behalf of ourselves and each other, and I will continue to educate, encourage, and work with my local communities and I hope you do the same. Democracy and community aren't just about showing up every four years to vote - it's working every day on behalf of something bigger than us - even when it all feels hopelessly, endlessly lost. But for now, it's okay to just grieve. We're scared, and I wish I could say "it's going to be okay." I don't know that it will be. I really don't. But for now, we gotta just hold on - to each other, to hope. For now, we're going to go day by day. Hour by hour, if we have to. My DMs are open to anyone who needs a space.
