The EPA 2009 “endangerment finding” has been officially repealed. If left unchallenged, this removes federal obligation to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and will dismantle critical legal frameworks that support national environmental and climate programs against carbon emissions, and drastically reduce public accountability against industrial polluters.

In 2024, the BioLab Chemical fire sent toxic plumes of chlorine and hydrochloric acid across Conyers, GA. Residents reported exposure to chlorine over 20 miles away from the site of the accident. We’re partnering with leaders across the South to enhance community response to environmental hazards, pollution threats, and emergencies like chemical accidents. Visit e2i2.org to learn more. FULL POST: Citizen scientists play a vital role in documenting water quality and pollution issues, keeping their communities and water monitoring networks informed about local water sources. This World Water Monitoring Day, we're highlighting the importance of ensuring communities have the training, tools, and resources needed to collect, interpret, and act on water quality data. In places with poor water infrastructure and ongoing contamination issues, citizen monitoring programs keep water data transparent and accessible for those who need it most. When communities can be involved in environmental protection, they’re empowered to take an active role in safeguarding their most precious resources. In our February 1st, 2025 report, the Environmental Equity Information Institute found that Solvay Specialty Polymers released nearly 69,000 pounds of hazardous air pollutants (HAPS) in 2023 alone. HAPS are pollutants that pose the greatest risk to health and are known or suspected of causing cancer, reproductive effects, birth defects, and other serious health issues Savannah Riverkeeper, Healthy Communities Augusta, and the Southern Environmental Law Center are using our initial reporting to help highlight the risks posed by approving a new permit that would allow Solvay to expand its operations. For the predominantly Black neighborhoods that reside near the chemical plant in South Augusta, expanding operations has the potential to worsen air quality. Poor air quality in the area may be associated with existing high rates of heart disease, asthma, and other respiratory conditions. For the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, in 1994 E2I2 produced this GIS map of St John the Baptist Parish in Louisiana. The map uses color to indicate the percentage of residents who self-identify as belonging to a minority racial group. The map shows where Toxics Release Inventory Reporting Program facilities are located. These facilities emit harmful chemicals into the air, water, and soil. The facilities are indicated by small black circles on the map.
