The EU average ratio declined after 2020 and stabilised at around 2.5 to 3.0. Countries with high shares of renewable electricity generation, including Spain, France and Sweden, show substantially lower ratios than countries with higher fossil fuel dependence, such as Italy and Poland. In the first half of 2026, Spain's ratio was estimated to be more than twice as favourable as that of Italy or Poland, indicating a stronger relative price advantage for electricity over gas in renewable-based power systems.
