We see other teens imagining what their characters want: an amulet, money, a trophy. But Jay explains that we should dig deeper - why do they want these things? To end a terrible war, to save the family business, to help make friends… On the next page we see how a character’s desire can be linked to their personality, e.g. a lonely character wants to make friends, or a rebellious character wants to bring down an evil king. We’re encouraged then to think about our character’s personality and how that affects what they want.
