Upcoming Special Programs on WMU for The Evan "Funk" Davies Show BRUCE McCULLOCH Tuesday, June 30th, 3pm - 6pm on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Canadian actor/comedian/musician/writer- damn, the slash key just broke - Bruce McCulloch joins the elite Quad Qlub as he returns for his fourth appearance on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show! Bruce recently released his third album, Dark Purple Slice (Tront Communications / Hidden Pony), which is a musical companion of sorts to the one-man show of the same name that Bruce has been performing across Canada this year. Bruce and Evan will chat about and play some tracks from the LP, and certainly The Kids In The Hall will be mentioned at least once. LOVE, BURNS Tuesday, July 14th, 3pm - 6pm on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Love, Burns (with one of the most important commas in rock 'n' roll) is the solo project of longtime indie jangler Phil Sutton (Pale Lights, Comet Gain, Velocette, et al.). Their new album Pavement Drawings (Spinout Nuggets) has drawn comparisons to Lloyd Cole and Felt, among other luminaries; you'll hear plenty of songs from the album during this live set. THE JACK RUBIES Tuesday, July 21st, 3pm - 6pm on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Formed in East London in the mid-'80s, The Jack Rubies enjoyed a successful run that included two LPs on TVT and regular appearances on "modern rock" radio and 120 Minutes. After calling it quits in the early '90s the group reformed a few years ago and began putting out new music on the Big Stir label, including this year's Visions In The Bowling Alley.

SOME NEWS: You may have heard me mention this on Wednesday, or seen posts about the new WFMU schedule, but if not I’m sorry to let you know that my show is not on the upcoming Fall / Winter / Spring schedule. I’ve got one more weekly show this Wednesday Sept 5 (which will feature a conversation with Lene Lovich!), then after that I’ll just be doing intermittent fill-ins for the foreseeable future. It’s long been WFMU policy to have longtime DJs sit out a schedule to allow new DJs the opportunity to do a weekly show. And the silver lining here is that there will be some great new DJs on the air during the next nine months. I’ll be posting about upcoming fill-ins here and on my other social media accounts, so stay tuned!

JAMES MASTRO & THE GOLD STARS Wednesday, June 25th, Noon - 3pm on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show James Mastro co-founded The Bongos in 1980, fresh off his time in Richard Lloyd's post-Television band. In the '90s Mastro fronted The Health and Happiness Show, and more recently he's been a steady member of lan Hunter's touring band among many other pursuits. Last year he released his first-ever solo LP, Dawn Of A New Error, and he put together an all-star band to play these songs live that includes WFMU's own Dennis Diken! CREEM CIRCUS Wednesday, July 2nd, Noon - 3pm on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Philadelphia's Creem Circus sound just like you'd expect a band named after two of the biggest rock magazines of the '70s to sound. Their latest album is called Get.Switched.On. CHRIS STAMEY Wednesday, July 9th, Noon - 3pm on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Chris Stamey calls in to chat about his forthcoming new album Anything Is Possible (Label 51 Recordings), due out on July 11. The album includes appearances and contributions from The Lemon Twigs, Mitch Easter, Marshall Crenshaw, and many other familiar names. as well as a Beach Boys cover with the help of Brian Wilson bandmembers Probyn Gregory and Darian Sahanaja. Chris and his band will be playing at City Winery on Thursday July 10. SAVAK Wednesday, July 30th, Noon - 3pm on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show SAVAK returns for their record-setting (not yet verified by Guinness) FIFTH appearance on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show! The Brooklyn band has just released their seventh LP, SQUAWK!, and 2025 also marks the 10th anniversary of the band's formation. Core members and songwriters Sohrab Habibion and Michael Jaworski continue to raise the bar with every release; early reviews of SQUAWK! have name-checked Wire, the Rolling Stones, and Mission Of Burma.
