New Funding Approved Einstein Postdoctoral Grant Jonathan Teubner Previously based at Harvard University, Jonathan Teubner is now working at the Faculty of Theology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in the team of Professor Judith Becker on the question of how the German scholar Adolf von Harnack (1851-1930) shaped the study of early Christianity in the United States and Great Britain during the twentieth century, and what significance this legacy holds for the field today.
New Funding Approved Einstein Postdoctoral Grant Xinyue Cui At Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Xinyue Cui works in Einstein Professor Benjamin Judkewitz's group to explore how the brain coordinates competing basic needs such as food intake and communication. The project focuses on how nutritional state influences acoustic communication and which neural circuits control this adaptation. Dr. Cui, who came to Berlin from Cornell University in the USA, uses the transparent fish Danionella cerebrum, an organism well suited for whole-brain activity imaging, to identify the brain networks involved and how they shape communication between animals, with broader implications for biomedical research.
New Funding Approved Einstein Berlin/HUJI Research Project Plasmon-Coupled Excitonic Arrays for Quantum Simulation The research project ‘Plasmon-Coupled Excitonic Arrays for Quantum Simulation’, led by the three physics professors Kirill Bolotin (Freie Universität Berlin), Hadar Steinberg and Ronen Rapaport (both Hebrew University Jerusalem), investigates novel quantum systems in semiconductors in order to gain a better understanding of the behaviour of many interacting quantum particles.
New Funding Approved Einstein Postdoctoral Grant Irene Spelta Einstein Independent Researcher Irene Spelta is conducting research in mathematics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, with a focus on complex algebraic geometry. Her research centers on the Torelli locus — a central object in algebraic geometry that captures the relationship between algebraic curves and their associated abelian varieties. By studying the geometric and arithmetic properties of the Torelli locus, her project aims to advance our understanding of moduli spaces and provide new insights into fundamental questions in algebraic geometry, number theory, and related areas of mathematics.
New Funding Approved Einstein Postdoctoral Grant Mahmood Soofi Einstein Independent Researcher Mahmood Soofi will establish a research group at the Geography Department of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. His research addresses how different priorities, dependencies and perceptions shape relationships in and around protected areas in nature conservation. Working in Cameroon and combining conservation social psychology and ecology, he and his team aim to develop a novel interdisciplinary framework for analysing these dynamics and to test whether evidence-based training can strengthen communication, trust and cooperation.
