Driftnets are so deadly that they were banned across the Mediterranean more than 20 years ago. During our investigation, 8 vessels were caught actively deploying banned gear. On shore, at least 843 vessels across 5 Moroccan ports were identified as linked to driftnet fishing, operating openly.

Almost all Moroccan swordfish is exported to the 🇪🇺. Without full traceability, fish caught with illegal driftnets may be reaching EU markets undetected. The Mediterranean is one of the world’s most overfished seas. We can no longer turn a blind eye - it needs protection now. Watch the full film:
